Agenda of the evening
MM Quintet comprises individuals who are special to Minja and are talented musicians from different parts of the world. Most importantly, they are friends that she met during her first year of studying in Amsterdam. Minja Mijušković, band leader of Minja Mijuskovic Quintet, was born in Belgrade, Serbia. She is pleased to introduce to you her band - Yehorii Uzhva on tenor saxophone, Ilay Shachal on alto and soprano saxophone, Duarte Fernandes on double bass, Alexander Ivanov on drums and Minja Mijuskovic herself on piano. The heart of Minja's music lies in the changing odd-meter groove that is significant in the national music of Serbia. The repertoire of the band consists of Minja's original compositions and arrangements. From a young age, various genres had an influence on Minja, such as folk music from the Balkans, classical music and even traditional and modern jazz, whose mix of genres this band now performs. Quintet released two singles this year: "Wisteria" and "Groovyah", which are now available on all music platforms. In April 2025 the band has recorded their debut album. The goal of the band is to paint a picture of Balkan countries to the listeners, for them to feel nostalgic emotion and get introduced to the mentality of people from Eastern Europe. I've been to several of these events in the past year, and my favorite was the first one. The dancing and the atmosphere made it feel like we all knew each other, creating a fun experience. It feels like friends coming together for jam sessions at the end, which is really sweet. Another aspect I appreciate is having professional musicians involved, keeping the quality high. Overall, I really, really enjoyed the experience. I can't wait to go again!
My flatmate is a singer and she performs at loving room regularly, so I came here to support her. I liked my flatmate’s performance very much but also the third singer Abigael. She made me so emotional, I am really impressed. She was very open about her experiences and she shared quite some deep details. And then her music. I don’t speak Spanish, but it was just beautiful. Her last song was in English and it made me cry. The space is really nice too, I ordered a burger, its tasty and overall its cozy. I didn’t plan to stay for long, but I am already here longer than expected and I am not planning to leave.
I was looking for events online to go with my boyfriend and I saw this one and I thought it’s a nice one to go. I was not expecting the artists would be so good, and now I love it. My favorite artist was the third one, and I am definitely going to follow her on spotify. Personally, I love everything here honestly, also the atmosphere here. You told me you do it in different cafes, and its going to be a different experience every time, so far I love it.
I think it's funny, when I walked in I thought, oh, is this a meeting place? Is this a supermarket or an organic store? But I really like this. It's just something I've never experienced before.
I was thrilled with the idea of incorporating culture, which attracted more young people. I love connecting with people of all ages, seeing different faces, and enjoying the diverse music from around the world. It's a perfect match for us, gathering in the garden with people from Portugal, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia, and more. When I feel down after watching the news, coming here, hearing the music, and seeing young faces cheers me up.
